The Elizabeth Montagu Collected Letters Online (EMCO) is looking for a part-time (0.5) Research Assistant, based at Oxford Brookes University for the duration of 3 years. This position will support the digital publication of Elizabeth Montagu's correspondence in collaboration with Swansea University. The position will require the RA to catalogue, transcribe, annotate, and/or proofread documents against source document for accuracy and formatting. The RA will aid the Project Manager and the General Editors to manage and supervise the workflow via the transcription and document management tool, Transkribus, for which training will be given. The applicant has to be able to work cooperatively and independently with the Editor-in-Chief, Prof Nicole Pohl, of Oxford Brookes University.

As a Postgraduate Reserach Assistant you should have:

  • knowledge of eighteenth-century British literary and cultural history;
  • the ability to accurately read a wide range of difficult handwritten historical texts;
  • demonstrated resourcefulness in tracking down and synthesizing information in a wide range of institutions and historical sources;
  • strong communication skills, keyboarding accuracy, and proficiency/familiarity with in XML and TEI standards, and a grasp of documentary editing techniques.

The candidate will be a postgraduate applicant with at least a Master's degree in English Literature or a related field.
