Duties and Responsibilities

Applications are invited for a full time Research Fellow to work in the UCL Clinical Operational Research Unit (CORU) on the project 'LAUNCHES' with Professor Christina Pagel. The post is available from 1 February 2019 and we will seek to appoint as soon as possible after interview. The post is funded by The Health Foundation for 2 years in the first instance until 31st January 2021. The post involves linking multiple national datasets to understand how people born with Congenital Heart Disease interact with the NHS. The ideal candidate will have experience of conducting descriptive and statistical analyses of health data.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will need a PhD or equivalent in one of mathematics, statistics, data science, operational research or similar, or should be finalising their PHD or waiting for their viva date. The post holder will also require a good first degree in a quantitative discipline with a large amount of mathematical content or equivalent career experience.

In addition, they need to demonstrate excellent computing skills with knowledge of standard software packages such as Microsoft Office and computer programming skills. They need to have knowledge of statistical or data analysis software, e.g. STATA; SPSS; R; MATLAB and statistical techniques relevant to health care. The ideal candidate needs to have excellent team-working skills, oral and written communication skills (including a track record of publishing peer reviewed academic articles) and demonstrate willingness to become expert in standard software tools used (for example VBA in MS Excel).
