Eligibility:

UK/EU and international applicants will be considered for places on the PhD programme in general. However, if you wish to be considered for Research Council funding, please check your eligibility:

NWSSDTP (ESRC)

NWCDTP (AHRC)

The School also has a number of PhD studentships and if your programme application is successful, you will automatically be considered for this (there is no separate application process for School studentships).

Academic Entry criteria:

A UK master’s degree with a minimum Merit, including 65% overall average, 65% in dissertation and no mark below 55%, or an EU or international qualification equivalent.

English Language criteria:

International students who have not been taught in a majority English speaking country may also be required to satisfy the English language requirements, which are:

IELTS – overall score of 7, including 6.5 in writing and no further score below 6

TOEFL – IBT 103 with 28 in writing and no further score below 25 in each section.

  • Supporting documents required are; two academic references, degree transcripts, CV, research proposal and IELTS or TOEFL score (if you are a national from a non-native English speaking country)
