The newly established Data Education in Schools programme at the University of Edinburgh is recruiting a Curriculum Development Officer. Data Education in Schools is part of a wider skills gateway project to develop data skills for the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Deal. This is a unique opportunity to shape and contribute to a ground breaking programme of change and innovation in schools.
The Edinburgh and South-East Scotland City Region Deal was announced on 7 August 2018 by the Prime Minister and First Minister. Innovation is to play a significant role in the Deal, attracting £350M of Government funding, with a Data-Driven Innovation Programme at its heart, which seeks to make the region the European leader for applying data science to products and services. The University of Edinburgh will lead this major initiative in collaboration with partners from the private, public and third sectors. For further information, see https://ddi.ac.uk
The Data Driven Innovation programme depends on talent – we need to provide opportunities for all children and young people within the City Region to learn how to collect, analyse, visualise and interpret data, as well as understand the ethical and privacy implications of data in society. The role of the curriculum development officer will be to lead and contribute to the development of data education teaching materials, curriculum mapping and the establishment of professional learning opportunities for teachers.
The post is full-time (35 hours) and fixed-term for 1 year.
