About CEAM

Formally established in March 2016, the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Materials (CEAM) is a new type of innovative materials R&D institute supported by the recent science and technology initiatives of Guangdong Province, China. With substantial funding having been secured from the provincial and metropolitan (Dongguan City) governments, the primary objective of CEAM is to design and build a materials engineering diffractometer at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) which is also located at Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, China. In the meantime, in order to promote the use of the neutron diffractometer in materials research and extend the application of large scientific apparatus in materials and manufacturing industry in China, CEAM has also built the necessary integral R&D functions, including Neutron Technology Department, Materials Research and Development Department, Stress Measurement and Analysis Department, and Numerical Modelling and Simulation Department.

Job Description

Both the Materials Research and Development Department and Stress Measurement and Analysis Department have vacancies at both Postdoctoral Research Scientist and Senior/Principal Research Scientist levels for exceptional and talented researchers. 

Key accountabilities

  • To provide technical expertise in solving material and residual stress related problems for industry
  • To develop innovative techniques and apparatus for material microstructure and properties multi-scale characterisation, and residual stress measurement
  • To jointly initiate and execute collaborative projects with key academic and industrial partners
  • To prepare research proposals and project applications for bidding of major provincial, national and international R&D grants
  • To publish papers in high impact factor journals 

Essential requirements

  • PhD (or equivalent) degree in materials science or engineering
  • Proven research record with publications in materials science or engineering 

Preference will be given to those candidates with

  • Hands-on experiences with various material properties testing and characterisation methods, such as OM, SEM, TEM, APT, EBSD, FIB, DIC, etc.
  • Hands-on experiences with various residual stress measurement techniques, such as neutron diffraction, X-ray, hole drilling, deep-hole drilling, the contour method, etc.
  • Knowledge of conventional and innovative materials manufacturing processes including casting, welding, forming, and 3D printing, etc.
  • Programming in Matlab, Fortran, VB, Visual C & C++, Java, Python, etc.
