Studentship Overview: The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences is delighted to invite applications for a fully funded PhD Studentship in a research project aligned with the expertise of our Research Division: Language, Development & Ageing. The studentships are named in honour of Professor Magdalen Vernon (1901-1991) who was the first female Head of the then Department of Psychology at Reading. Applications are especially welcomed from female applicants. We also welcome applications for part-time and flexible working.
Housed in state-of-the-art facilities, the School has established itself as a leading centre for research. The School was ranked in the top 20 (15th) in the UK within its unit of assessment in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework based on research power. Overall, nearly 80% of our research was rated as internationally excellent and/or world leading. The successful candidates will join a thriving postgraduate research community of more than 70 PhD students who benefit from excellent support and resources from the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences (https://www.reading.ac.uk/pcls/), the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (http://www.reading.ac.uk/cinn/), the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (https://www.reading.ac.uk/celm/) and membership of the University Graduate School (http://www.reading.ac.uk/graduateschool/).
Further information on the research expertise in our Research Divisions can be obtained by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact the School through this email address prior to making an online application through the University’s admissions portal (www.reading.ac.uk/pgapply). You will also need to make contact with a member of staff eligible to mentor PhD projects—lecturers, associate professors and professors—to discuss the tenability of your project and make sure that the mentor is available to work with you.
