Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the Department of Physics. We are interested in candidates working in diverse fields including Astrophysics, Biophysics, and Particle physics. Candidates well established in Materials Physics, Condensed Matter physics and Computational physics are also welcome. Applicants are expected to manage his/her own research program in their field and be committed to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

About us
Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is a newly established university located in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. The University is accredited by the Ministry of Education and is a pioneer in higher education reform in China. The Department of Physics was established in 2011, which is one of the earliest department established in SUSTech. We are devoted to providing first-class education and top-notch research in physics. The Department of Physics now has 4 second-level subjects i.e. condensed matter physics, theoretical physics, computational physics and optics, while setting up biophysics, astrophysics and particle physics. Staff members are engaged in frontier research in the fields of quantum transport and control, surface physics, computational physics, condensed matter theory, quantum information and quantum computation, etc.

The Department has a current size of 34 faculties, including 4 chair professors, 3 professors, 16 associate professors, and 11 assistant professors. There are 2 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 Changjiang Scholar, 2 National Excellent Young Scholars, 2 “Thousand Talents Program” scholars, 11 “Thousand Talents Program for Young Professionals” scholars, 1 leading talent of "Pearl River Talent Plan” of Guangdong Province, 1 Excellent Young Scholar of Guangdong, 2 Excellent Talent and 1 National Leading Talent under High-level Talent of Shenzhen Program, 2 Shenzhen Scholars, and 21 talents of “Peacock Plan”. All members of our academic staff have education or work experience in top 100 universities in the world.

In recent years, our research support totaled more than 170 million (CNY), including 48 projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China, 8 projects from Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education, 13 projects from Guangdong Natural Science Foundation, and 35 projects from Shenzhen Municipality. So far, our academic staff have published up to 340 papers in journals including Physics Review Letters, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society.

Several research platforms are being established by our department, including Picometers Center, Neutron Research Center, Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering. And 18 laboratories has been established, including Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Thermoelectric Materials, Functional Complex Oxide Thin Films Laboratory, Low dimensional material synthesis and characterization Laboratory, Nanoscale Optoelectronics Laboratory, Quantum Transport Laboratory, Nanofabrication and Characterization Laboratory, Thin film Physics Laboratory, Mesoscopic Physics Laboratory, Surface Physics Laboratory, Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy and Sample Preparation Laboratory, and High Performance Computation Platform.
