About The Role
We now have exciting new opportunities for Mechanical Development Engineers to join the ISIS Design Division, working closely with fellow engineers and scientists to specify, design, procure and develop bespoke mechanical and electrical equipment and complex systems for the facility.
Our engineers are responsible for taking top level development ideas and managing the complete development process through engineering concept, design, procurement, installation / commissioning, testing and final reporting.
Further responsibilities will include:
You will be appointed at either Band D (Engineer) or Band E (Senior Engineer) of STFC’s staffing hierarchy, depending on the strength of your skills, experience and qualifications.
You will be qualified to HNC/HND or degree level along with relevant experience.
ISIS uses a wide range of technologies, from RF cavities and magnetic components, through to materials used in extreme environments. You will need a broad understanding of mechanical engineering and specific in-depth knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
You will also have experience of developing test programmes within a highly complex technical environment. You should be able to demonstrate experience in performing engineering calculations and simulations and the use of 3D modelling and 2D drawing packages to ensure that a development brief is met.
You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a highly organised approach to work, be self-motivated, innovative and inquisitive, with a desire to gain new skills in a broad range of areas.
To be considered for this position you will have the above skills and experience as well as the following:
You will be qualified to degree level, possibly chartered engineer status and with significant experience in an area of responsibility, managing and directing staff engaged on development projects.
It would be desirable to have experience in financial planning/budget control and an understanding of other related engineering disciplines.
