The Centre for Applied Health Economics (CAHE) was established in 2008 and is self-funded, with an emphasis on teamwork, based within the School of Medicine and aligned with the Menzies Health Institute Queensland (MHIQ). The Centre has several programs of research in health economics, including health technology assessment for the Australian Government, multiple research grants with national bodies (eg ARC, NHMRC), and has research programs around preference elicitation techniques such as discrete choice experiments, priority-setting including multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA), and other applied technical fields including the expected value of perfect information (EVPI).

The opportunity

The primary role for this position will be to provide high level expertise in health technology assessment (HTA) of health care interventions. HTA involves providing objective evidence-based appraisals of proposals for medical services/procedures and pharmaceutical products using a wide range of skills including: critical appraisal of clinical trial evidence, quantitative analysis, epidemiology, systematic literature reviews, economic evaluation, budget impact modelling and report writing.

This is a full time fixed term (2 year) position based at the Nathan campus and applicants should address the selection criteria which is part of the application process.

About you

This position will suit an individual in health economics or person already working in research but wishes to apply their knowledge and expertise directly into health policy decisions. The role will suit someone with strong quantitative skills and experience in systematic review, modelling, meta-analysis and/or cost-effectiveness analysis, supervision of research staff, participation in grant applications and tenders. The incumbent will have research interests in public health, epidemiology, health services research or health economics aligned with the Centre's strategic objectives. A PhD or equivalent industry experience is required for appointment at RF Grade 2.

Salary range

Research Fellow, Grade 1 or 2: $72,344 - $92,511 - $109,860 per annum plus 17% employer superannuation contribution.
