Reports to: Team Leader, R&D

Job Summary:

We are seeking an ambitious, highly organised, detail-oriented  individual who is keen to develop a career in a lab-based role within a fast-paced commercial environment. The role involves taking part in the scientific activities of the R&D group by supporting the development and delivery of new products and/or performing routine laboratory work, while providing documentation accordingly to ISO standards. The position also involves dealing with customers’ technical enquiries.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Assist Team Leader on a variety of scientific projects
  • Plan and execute experiments to accomplish R&D project goals
  • Prepare reports and present data at project meetings and departmental meetings
  • Disseminate technical knowledge and promote good laboratory practices in the group
  • Support the development of R&D scientists and research assistants
  • Follow independently SOP and protocols
  • Troubleshoot independently experiments
  • Keep accurate laboratory records
  • Work to ISO13485 standards
  • Participate in preparing technical literature to support new products
  • Participate in general laboratory meetings
  • Take part to the technical support activities of the R&D group

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in protein biochemistry, molecular biology or enzymology
  • Proven experience in designing protein or enzyme assays
  • Hands on experience in real-time PCR (qPCR) or endpoint PCR assay design and interpretation of data
  • Experience in next generation sequencing
  • Familiarity with general bioinformatics website and software packages
  • Expertise in a broad range of molecular biology techniques
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with an interdisciplinary group
  • Ability to work independently and in a team

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of DNA and RNA polymerases enzymology, mechanisms of actions
  • Good understanding of chemical principles involved in buffers, stabilizers, enhancers, fluorescent chemistry etc. used with commercial polymerases and polymerase mixes
  • Experience in development and optimization of lyophilized enzyme preparations
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to apply relevant statistical models to large data sets
  • Experience in professional interaction with customers

Education and Experience:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in Life Science
  • 3+ years’ experience in the biotech/diagnostic industry, post doc or equivalent
