About the team/job
Applications are invited for a post-doc position in the group of Dr. Christoph Merten, using cutting-edge microfluidic technology in the biomedical field. In particular, we are looking for a candidate who will further develop our personalised cancer therapy platform (Eduati et al., Nat. Communications 2018) towards clinical applications. Making use of microfluidic technology this platform enables to test tens to hundreds of drug combinations directly on live human tumour samples. Exploiting high resolution 3D printing we now plan commercialisation of the microfluidic technology, potentially resulting in the establishment of a startup company building medical instruments. In addition to the 3D printing approach we furthermore plan implementing imaging and sequencing based readouts.

You will be leading a scientific project with high impact in biomedical sciences. In particular, you will build instruments, optimize microfluidic workflows and set up new production techniques. You will also closely interact with members of the EMBL electronic and mechanical workshops. We expect the work to result in high impact scientific publications with you as a main author. Furthermore you might become an inventor on patents resulting from technology development.
We are looking for outstanding applicants holding a university degree in microsystems engineering or related fields.
High motivation and enthusiasm to work within an international team.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
You might also have
Prior experience in microfluidics, 3D printing, instrument design, imaging technologies and/or next generation sequencing is advantageous, but not absolutely required.
