The School of Economics at the University of Kent will be awarding a number of doctoral scholarships for outstanding students who will begin their PhD study in the School in September 2019.

The scholarship competition is open to all new School of Economics postgraduate research applicants (current Kent research students are not eligible for these scholarships). We accept candidates in any area of economics, but we encourage applicants to take a look at the School's research specialisms in order to identify a potential area in which you are interested in working.

Our scholarships will take the form of:

  1. School of Economics Vice Chancellor’s Research Scholarship
  2. School of Economics Doctoral Scholarship

All scholarships are offered in the form of Graduate Teaching Assistantships, whereby PhD students receive financial support in return for a limited amount of teaching (up to six hours per week) across the Autumn and Spring terms.

Eligibility criteria

  • Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential, and will have obtained a good undergraduate honours degree (a First or good 2i), and ordinarily a Master’s degree with Merit or Distinction.
