Applications are invited for the post of University Lecturer in Plant Sciences, to take up post in October 2019. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduates; research; supervision of graduate students; other duties associated with academic life. There is the opportunity for the successful applicant to become a Fellow of a College, we are operating a collaboration with Newnham College under the Trinity scheme for Joint Lectureships.

We welcome excellent candidates in all areas of Plant and/or Microbial Ecology including those with an interest in biodiversity conservation. The University has recently established a Conservation Initiative with the construction of the David Attenborough Building at the cost of £60M. This is a vibrant collaborative and interdisciplinary research hub that houses a number of academic groups and members of several NGOs based in Cambridge.

The appointee will teach undergraduates through lectures, ecology and evolution field courses, practical classes and small group supervisions, and will be motivated to further innovate our teaching methods. We expect the successful candidate to develop a research programme that complements and reinforces the existing Departmental research portfolio.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field and an outstanding record of excellence in research that is reflected in their publications. They will have sufficient breadth and/or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline, and of research methods and techniques to develop research objectives, projects and proposals. Candidates should be able to teach to a high standard, manage a diverse workload, and have the ability to lead their own research programme.
