The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be Grade 7 £35,328 - £42,701 per annum- Grade 8 £43,884 - £51,769  per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Wellcome / EPSRC Centre for Surgical and Interventional Sciences at UCL invites applications for scientists and engineers (MSc/PhD) with a strong background in the computational, mechanical and physical technology that underpins modern healthcare. This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic candidates with excellent technical skills and track record to join an internationally leading research group. The Centre mission is to increase the translation of scientific and engineering discovery and advances into real life clinical tools for first-in-human clinical studies. We require outstanding engineers with in-depth technical skills in computational methods, imaging, robotics and software to develop and translate the next generation of interventional systems.

Our fundamental research themes are:

Physiological Navigation – localising functional and structural information for interventions within the anatomy at different scales

Clinician Experience – optimising the way that clinicians and clinical teams interface with technology to deliver best practice

Precision Instrumentation -  devising the next generation of connected sensors, intelligent tools and devices

We need a broad set of technical expertise underpinning the Centre’s data and artificial intelligence, robotics and imaging platforms and research aspirations.

The posts are funded for 3 years in the first instance.

Applicants will require a PhD degree in appropriate field or equivalent research experience. (If the degree has not yet been granted, the final accepted version of the thesis should have been submitted to the degree granting university by the time of starting). Honours degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or Computer Science. Grade 8 applicants must have the ability to supervise academic work by undergraduates, masters and doctorate students and have postdoctoral research experience.

Appointment at Grade 8 £43,884 to £51,769, Grade 7 £35,328 to £42,701 per annum this is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD. If about to submit a PhD, the appointment will be at Grade 6B (£30,922 - £32,607) salary per annum (inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
