We are seeking an exceptional leader for our Division of Management who will have responsibility for the Waikato Management School while also contributing to strategic leadership in the University as a whole.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) is the senior strategic and academic leader of the Division, responsible for shaping its intellectual, professional and operational culture and direction and for the effective creation and stewardship of its resources. The PVC places paramount importance on the interests and reputation of the University as a whole, promoting these through leadership of the Division. There is specific responsibility to lead programme developments that will increase student numbers, advance the quality of teaching and research in the Division, and increase the visibility, engagement and impact of the Division with the business community in New Zealand.

The Waikato Management School has held Triple Crown Accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA) since 2006, an international benchmark of excellence in business education that puts us in an elite group comprised of the top 1% of all business schools globally. It also attracts outstanding domestic and international students, and benefits from the support of alumni who have been successful in a wide range of careers.

The Division comprises the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics, the School of Management and Marketing, Executive Education and the Institute for Business Research. In 2018 they had a combined total of 2728 equivalent fulltime students (including 609 postgraduate students and 806 international students), 85 academic staff and 30 professional and support staff.

The significance of the role is demonstrated by the appointee being a member of the University’s executive leadership group and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor.

To succeed in this role you will need a PhD in a relevant field or an equivalent record of achievement in organisational leadership, and a personal record of distinction and achievement in a field relevant to the Division. Demonstrated ability to articulate a vision, lead change in a complex environment and develop innovative strategies is essential. Large scale budget management experience and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also required. You must also be able to demonstrate the capacity to provide leadership that respects the diversity of approaches in the different disciplines making up the Management School and integrates academic teaching and research with contributions to understanding the critical issues facing organisations today.

The appointment will be for a fixed term of five years.
