The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to develop into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.

At present, the University has programmers in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science, etc. Its long-term goal is to have 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.

The University has an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy with English being the primary medium of instruction, a collegiate system, general education curriculum, multidisciplinary programmes, and a student-centered educational philosophy.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications.

Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. The University recruits first-class faculty members from around the world, and we welcome high caliber faculty of diverse background from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier School of Humanities and Social Science in China.   

Positions and Qualifications 

The School of Humanities and Social Science invites application for its new programme, MA in English for Professional Communication. We recruit first-class faculty member from around the world to establish a dynamic and innovative MA programme for language and communication. Applicant should i) possess a PhD degree in Applied Linguistics or other related fields; (ii) specialize in one or more of the following areas: pragmatics, multi-cultural and multilingual communication and writing in new media; and (iii) have an excellent research record and a good portfolio of teaching in respective areas. 

The appointee will be required to: (a) teach postgraduate courses in the area(s) named above; (b) initiate, lead and participate in research activities; and (c) undertake administrative duties. 

Appointment will be made on a contract basis for three years initially commencing August 2019, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later. 

Salary and Fringe Benefits 

Salary will be internationally competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC. The appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.
