A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the project titled "AI-Optimized Pathways for Schedule Execution (AI-OPSE)".
The key responsibilities and duties are to: devise, implement, and test solutions for the AI-OPSE project; disseminate the outcomes of the AI-OPSE project and author reports to the project's sponsor; develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research; conduct individual and collaborative research projects; write up research work for presentation and publication; continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism; translate knowledge of advances in the subject areas into research activity; manage own research and administrative activities, with guidance if required; assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g. for funding and contractual purposes; and communicate material of a specialist or highly technical nature. The post holder may also: assist in the supervision of student projects; provide limited supervision/instruction to classes; assist in the development of student research skills; plan and deliver seminars relating to research area.
The role holder must 1) have obtained or be close to obtaining a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or Architecture, with a focus on one or more of: a) computing in civil engineering or architecture, b) machine learning, c) construction scheduling; 2) possess good writing skills and some research experience with sufficient breadth/depth of specialist knowledge in one or more of the areas above; 3) Good communication and presentation skills; 4) Programming experience in one or more object oriented languages, and 5) Experience of managing own workload. In addition, academic teaching, supervision and/or industry experience is desired but not a requisite.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,243 - £30,395 Research Associate: £32,236 - £39,609
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
