Diamond Light Source is currently recruiting for an experienced PLC Systems Engineer to join an established team in a world leading scientific organisation. The role will manage all PLC based control solutions across the facility including the three accelerators, photon beamlines and experiment stations.

This role will take responsibility for the development and operational support of PLCs based solutions, including requirements gathering, software design, development, documentation and commissioning new solutions.

The role will work closely with groups such as Software Systems, Vacuum Instrumentation, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering that are jointly responsible for delivering new projects and upgrades for Diamond. The role will require liaising with scientists, project planners and technicians who will be building and operating the photon beamlines.

The role will have the following responsibilities:

  • Team leader for Machine/ Beamline Equipment protection and PLC systems;
  • Line management for the staff and contractors to support Machine/Equipment protection and PLC system;
  • Manage technical/progress meeting for Machine/Equipment protection and PLC systems;
  • Design and develop the Machine/Equipment protection and PLC systems across accelerators/beamlines;
  • Provide technical expertise on Acc MPS, RF Cavity PLC, Cryo plant PLC, Linac PLC, Vacuum Protection and Beamline Equipment Protection, and PLC technology across Diamond;
  • Project planning and coordination project relating to Machine/Equipment protection and PLC systems;
  • Commission and diagnose faults on interlocks and subsystems based on PLC technology;
  • Provide operational support and analysis of installed Machine/Equipment protection and PLC systems;
  • Design and developing PLC systems;
  • Interface with internal customers, including Engineers and Scientists, at all stages of the development life cycle, for example, developing requirements, track project progress, and verify operation of Control Systems;
  • Define the processes and associated software development to support the design of PLC systems throughout Diamond.
  • Report on progress in all areas on a periodic basis;
  • Liaise with, and supervise, contractors and suppliers of PLC Sub systems and PLC based turn-key Control Systems;
  • Preparation of tenders and service level agreements for supply of services, subsystems, electronics modules and components;
  • Supervision of records of subsystem module & software revision history.
