Turning 150 years old in 2019, the University of Otago is New Zealand's first and oldest University. Our Department is internationally-recognised for its scholarly contributions in the fields of: Auditing, Performance Measurement and Management, Capital Market Research, Financial Reporting, environmental reporting, and Business Education. We have excellent archival databases including WRDS, Audit Analytics, Bloomberg, Capital IQ, CRSP/Compustat, DataStream, Orbis and SIRCA. We also have strong research productivity and representation in leading accounting journals as well as staff who serve as editors and on editorial boards.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a full-time, confirmation path Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Accountancy. This role provides an opportunity for you to contribute to our existing teaching and research strengths in the area of management accounting, financial accounting, financial analytics or accounting information systems. We do however encourage applications from all other accounting-related themes such as taxation and auditing.

Your Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have an excellent research and publication portfolio in accounting, a strong commitment to quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as:

  • A PhD in accounting or equivalent.
  • A comprehensive research agenda aimed at internationally-rated accounting journals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative and collegiate approach to work.
  • Previous industrial experience and / or a professional accountancy qualification are desirable attributes, but not essential.

Please note candidates nearing completion of the PhD degree may be considered only for the Lecturer position. A high quality publication and teaching record is needed to be considered for the senior lecturer role.
