Applications are invited for two PhD studentships in the Cardiff Catalysis Institute (CCI), for work in collaboration with the UK Catalysis Hub - a national network of catalytic science in the UK.
Several research projects will be available studying the molecular level properties controlling the performance of key catalytic systems. A wide range of techniques will be employed including synthesis, characterisation and testing of catalytic systems, but also, where appropriate, synchrotron and neutron based experimental methods (employing the UK Diamond synchrotron and ISIS neutron facilities), together with computer modelling.
Research topics will relate to the following catalytic systems:
Much of the research relates to environmental remediation, renewable energy and synthetic fuels. All projects will explore areas of key scientific and industrial importance and will train the student in advanced experimental and/or computational techniques.
