Full time starting salary is normally in the range £30,395 to £39,609 with potential progression once in post to £42,036 a year.
We are seeking a highly motivated physical scientist with relevant expertise in single-molecule microscopy and the design and construction of advanced optical systems to join our vibrant, multidisciplinary team at the Centre of Membrane Proteins and Receptors (COMPARE). The postdoctoral position is supported by a large research programme funded by the Wellcome Trust.
Our group based at IMSR/COMPARE investigates the molecular mechanisms of signalling by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which mediate the effects of many hormones and neurotransmitters and are major drug targets. To this end, we develop innovative biophysical methods based on single-molecule microscopy and FRET (e.g. Calebiro et al. PNAS 2013; Godbole et al. Nat. Commun. 2017; Sungkaworn et al. Nature 2017).
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of new optical systems and approaches based on TIRF and advanced PSF engineering for ultrafast, multicolour single-particle tracking in 3D and single-molecule FRET. He/she will use these innovative approaches to study the conformational dynamics, diffusion and functional organization of GPCRs both in vitro with purified proteins and in living cells.
The job holder will be expected to develop research objectives and proposals for their own or joint research, with assistance of a mentor if required; they will collect research data, analyse and interpret the data and then disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc. They will also contribute to writing bids for research funding.
Successful candidates will need to have:
Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary experimental research, team work and a drive to learn new skills are essential for this position.
Informal inquiries should be sent via e-mail to Prof. Davide Calebiro (email@example.com).
