Summary of the role/position
The Department of Sociology, Philosophy and Anthropology (SPA) and the Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDSAI) are looking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in Data Studies. The post is affiliated to the IDSAI, a new pan-university Institute that focuses on developing innovative approaches to the use of data and artificial intelligence in modern society.
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Philosophy, Sociology, History, Anthropology or Science and Technology Studies, and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in the study of data practices from a humanities and/or social science perspective.

About the Department
The Department of Sociology, Philosophy and Anthropology within the College for Social Science and International Studies, is a vibrant interdisciplinary unit with a well-established track record in internationally leading research, which specialises in studies of science and technology, culture, consciousness, mind, the arts, and crime. The Department of SPA offers programmes in philosophy, sociology, anthropology and criminology at both undergraduate and master level, has a thriving community of MPhil and PhD students, and contributes to the teaching of Data Science across the university. It also hosts the internationally leading Exeter Centre for the Study of the Life Sciences (Egenis), whose "Data and Knowledge Processing" research strand will host the post-holder's research activities.
