We are delighted to invite applications for the post of Chair in Management of Projects to lead and shape the vibrant Management of Projects Research Group of academics based in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester.

This is an exciting opportunity for a successful internationally renowned academic to lead colleagues and shape the activities of the Management of Projects Research Group. You will provide academic vision and support for colleagues to ensure that the Group and School remains at the forefront of pioneering discoveries, interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-sector partnerships to tackle some of the biggest questions facing society. The Group has strong foundations in the field of project studies, and in addition to a very wide range of research areas from organisational practice to risk, health and safety, is also responsible for the delivering the School’s largest post-graduate MSc suite of programmes in Management of Projects to 300 students.

You will be responsible for the overall leadership, management and development of a group of staff and PhD researchers within the Research Group and their contribution to a full range of learning and teaching, research, enterprise, scholarship, professional accreditation, quality, employability and partnership activity across the subject area. In addition to providing academic leadership, you will be responsible for conducting and publishing internationally recognised research, attracting funding and PhD studentships and engaging with industry, government and other professional bodies. You will also be required to deliver high quality, research inspired teaching and learning and exercise leadership in driving the continuous improvement of teaching within this area by reviewing courses, ensuring compliance with policy and contributing to School, Faculty and University level Committees.

You will have a PhD in a relevant subject area, evidence of attracting significant research grant funding and publishing high quality research in internationally recognised journals. In addition, you will have evidence of providing an exemplary student experience through the provision of research inspired teaching, the design of innovative and engaging learning materials and supportive supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. We particularly welcome applications from those with a research and education interest around the management of technological innovation relating to at least one of the following areas: (a) health, safety and wellbeing; (b) infrastructure development and risk; (c) energy and climate change, and/or; (d) the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0).
