The American University of Rome (AUR) seeks a president with strong entrepreneurial skills and strategic vision to succeed Dr. Richard Hodges, who is retiring after nearly a decade of distinguished service.

Founded in 1969, the University is an English-speaking, liberal arts, co-educational, independent non-profit institution. Governed by a board of prominent American and Italian academic and business leaders, the University is located near central Rome in a garden of pines atop the prestigious Janiculum, Rome’s highest hill. AUR is incorporated in Washington, D.C., licensed in the State of Delaware, and accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The oldest American university in Rome, AUR offers BA, BS, and MA degrees to its diverse student body of approximately 500 degree-seeking and study-abroad students, representing more than 30 nationalities. Through its practical, interdisciplinary academic majors, opportunities for learning through travel and internships, and its multicultural faculty and staff, the University prepares students to live and work across cultures in an increasingly connected world. As a member of the American Association of International Colleges and Universities (AAICU), the University offers its students the opportunity to spend a semester at any of the 27 member institutions and other partner universities in the U.S., Belgium, Germany, Japan, and the UK. Additional information is available at aur.edu.

Candidate qualifications include an earned doctorate or terminal degree from a U.S. or other English-language university or compensating accomplishments; significant managerial experience in a U.S. university or comparable organization; a proven record of entrepreneurial and strategic leadership, managing complex budgets, and developing resources; and the demonstrated ability to work effectively in an international environment. An understanding of Italy, its language and culture is favored. Compensation and benefits are competitive. Citizens of a country that taxes world-wide income, such as the U.S., may enjoy favorable tax treatment. The position is available beginning July 2020.
