The Derby Fellowshipsare focused on key areas within the Humanities and Social Sciences, leading to a permanent position, subject to performance against a high-quality threshold. The scheme is designed to recruit and nurture a new generation of outstanding and ambitious academic leaders.

In this intake, we seek to recruit to the following subject and theme areas:

  • Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology
  • Slavery and Unfree Labour
  • Transforming Conflict

Appointees will be individuals who have demonstrated or show potential for excellence in research, teaching and/or public engagement and innovation in the subject areas noted above. The Fellowships offer a unique opportunity for ambitious early career academics to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a world class university environment, to develop their curriculum vitae and progress to permanent tenure at Liverpool by the end of the Fellowship.

The University of Liverpool hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to the principles of Athena SWAN and values equity and diversity. We strive to ensure our workforce is representative of broader society and actively encourage applications from those in underrepresented minority groups, women, persons with disabilities and persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities. We are committed to ensuring support for individuals starting out in their career or returning to academia after a career break for family, caring or health reasons.

Candidates must have been awarded, or be about to be awarded, their PhD prior to application (and should have no more than 8 years of post-doctoral experience following the award of their PhD). Where applicants have worked part-time or have had career breaks, the window would be extended accordingly.
