The Department of Theology and Religion seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and creative Teaching Fellow and Centre Facilitator as part of the Edward Cadbury Centre for the Public Understanding of Religion.

The principal duty of the postholder will be to work closely with the Cadbury Centre Director, Dr Andrew Davies, to extend the Centre’s existing 2015-2020 development plan and ensure a robust continuing strategy for the Centre’s research, educational and professional engagement activities. This will also require close working with the University’s Development and Alumni Relations Office and Research Office to identify and pursue potential funding opportunities, including specifically the need to pursue external funding/sponsorship to support the presence of a major international conference in Birmingham in 2022. The postholder will also work with the Director and Cadbury Centre colleagues to develop and submit pipeline research funding applications (including international collaborations) and to develop training resources emerging from current projects on religion and politics, religion and human rights and religion and development.

The post holder will:

  • Contribute to the design of modules, programmes and projects with other colleagues.
  • Devise and supervise projects, student dissertations and practical work.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer on own specialism that is of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader.
  • Contribute to Departmental/School teaching-related activities and teaching-related administration.

Candidates should have, or be completing, a PhD in Theology & Religion or focussed on the impact of religion in fields such as anthropology, sociology, political science, development, social policy, public sector administration or similar. Experience in strategic planning, the pursuit of philanthropic and/or research funding and project development would be a considerable advantage, as would professional experience in the public or third sectors.

The Edward Cadbury Centre for the Public Understanding of Religion was established in 2014 to enhance the public understanding of religion regionally, nationally and internationally through distinctive, strategic and engaged interdisciplinary research. As a member of the Centre and of the Department of Theology and Religion, the post holder will join a lively and flourishing community where they will enjoy opportunities for intellectual and other leadership in a collegiate and highly ambitious environment.

This is a full-time post with a duration of six months, available for immediate start.
