We are currently seeking to make an appointment in Publishing, at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, to contribute to a range of activities in the discipline area. The successful applicant will contribute to teaching and lecturing at all levels of HE provision, as appropriate, from Foundation Year to Level 7 Postgraduate. Where possible, the applicant will also be qualified and able to supervise PGR students in Publishing and cognate disciplines.
Our BA Writing and Publishing and our MA Publishing are programmes that are up-to-date, well balanced, thought-provoking and exciting. They cover all industry sectors, from fiction to scholarly, and all job roles from editorial to author rights. They aim to encourage students to explore all aspects of the publishing industry, including editorial and content development, design and production, sales and marketing, legal frameworks, and business success and entrepreneurship. The Publishing provision at the University of Derby covers both print and digital books and magazines.
The academic team seeks to work closely with industry, not only to build work-experience opportunities for our students but to develop Knowledge Exchange and collaborative research opportunities. The team also work closely and in an inter-disciplinary way with colleagues in areas such as Creative Writing, the School of Arts, Journalism and the Business School.
The discipline area is seeking to grow and expand its reach, with new programmes of study and new areas of activity being explored, meaning that this is an exciting time to join this dynamic academic team.
Experience within the publishing industry, either in the UK or internationally, is welcomed, as is an academic or research background in a relevant Humanities, Digital Humanities, or Business discipline.
The successful candidate will have the ability to deliver engaging and innovate teaching as part of a programme team, and will also help to develop a strong research and industry engagement profile for the area.
Experience of HE administration, programme leadership, and curriculum development are sought for successful applicants at Senior Lecturer level.
