The way Swansea University supports its teaching staff is changing and expanding. We see high quality teaching as key to the ambitious plans for the University. We are seeking a high calibre individual who wants to join us on this exciting journey. The Senior Academic Developer will primarily be leading the direction of a team of academic developers in supporting staff from colleges and professional service units across the university as they transition to a new digital learning platform for Academic Year 2020/21.

The successful candidate will make significant contributions to overall strategic objectives of the project, have a strong pedagogical understanding and a track record of delivering excellence and innovation in learning and teaching or related areas. This will be a challenging and demanding role, requiring excellent teamwork, motivation and communication skills, personal organisation and flexibility.

Essential Criteria


  • Demonstrable evidence of taking pride in delivering professional services and solutions
  • Ability to work together in an environment of equality, trust and respect to deliver services that strive to exceed the needs and expectations of customers
  • Demonstrate evidence of providing a caring approach to all your customers ensuring a personalised and positive experience


  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent
  • Fellowship, or Higher, of the Higher Education Academy or relevant equivalent experience and the willingness to achieve Fellowship, within 12 months of appointment


  • Experience of teaching or supporting teachers in HE or equivalent environment
  • Experience of delivering or supporting technology enhanced learning activities in an academic environment, including the use of a Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, D2L, etc).
  • Significant and relevant academic, professional or equivalent knowledge and experience in learning and teaching in a Higher Education or equivalent environment
  • Proven experience of leading, managing and delivering high quality projects or services
  • Demonstrable evidence of user and/or stakeholder engagement in developing and delivering relevant projects and services.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to coordinate the work of self and others and to achieve progress against strategic aims and planned targets
  • Knowledge and understanding of current developments in learning, teaching and assessment (LTA) related issues in UK HE
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly disposition to help facilitate the change to new and often unfamiliar LTA practices using TEL tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and engagement skills
  • Confidence in interacting with students and staff at all levels
  • Drive and ability to work under own initiative as required
  • Demonstrable use of evaluation to inform and enhance practice
