Want to put your classical test theory, equating, linking and item response theory to good practice within educational research?

Working closely with a variety of research teams you’ll use your statistical and psychometric background to lead the development and delivery of a programme of psychometric research. You’ll lead the psychometric components of major national test development projects, managing our internal teams, external partners, and liaising with high profile clients.  

Your skills will contribute to strengthening our psychometric capability and capacity, promoting innovation and new approaches to psychometric analyses. 

Key parts of your role include;  

  • Scope and shape design, methods and analyses, preparing bids and proposals, and deliver projects that have an impact on learners, practitioners or policy makers  
  • Design and direct psychometrics projects and manage the psychometric contribution to assessment or evaluation projects  
  • Lead and oversee the sampling and psychometric elements of high profile national projects  
  • Share findings with the education policy and measurement communities in the UK and internationally  
  • Engage with the wider psychometric and test development community and contribute to NFER’s understanding of psychometrics and outcome measurement.  

Your technical background:  

  • A degree in Quantitative Psychology, Statistics, Educational Measurement, data analysis or related subject  
  • Applied research in the foundations of psychometrics including classical test theory, item response theory, structural equation modelling, mixed-effects modelling  
  • Ability to learn the relevant science, including skills development, developmental psychology, or cognitive psychology  
  • Knowledge of at least one scientific programming environment: R, Python, Stata, MATLAB

Bonus Points:

We’re eager to hear from you if you’ve worked as a statistician, psychologist or research scientist. You might have come from developing SJT or have a good insight into behavioural science in relation to tests and assessments. You could come from a pharmaceuticals background or within academic research.
