About the role
In this role you will share responsibility for the Secondary PGCE course management and quality assurance process. Undertaking teaching in the field of initial teacher education, with specific responsibility for Geography education and a leading role in the PGCE Professional Studies programme. You will also contribute to SCITT provision, the supervision of PGCE students in their school placements, timetabled tutorial support and provision of focus-day school visits.
Our Secondary PGCE was a pioneer in engaging teachers in schools in the training and assessment of student teachers. Its history shows that the designation of subject co-tutors and professional tutors (serving school teachers with designated roles in the education of beginning teachers) and the development of partnership predated national moves into these requirements. Its Partnership scheme is therefore strongly based on consensual understanding of the roles and responsibilities of schools and the university, built up over many years of experience. At our last Ofsted inspection (in 2015), the Secondary PGCE was judged to be ‘Good’.
With a first degree in a relevant subject area, you will have significant secondary school experience in the UK. Alongside, Qualified Teacher status for UK Schools you will have experience of supporting and/or mentoring student teachers in school and/or in HE. We are looking for a self-starter with a passion for ensuring we train the very best teachers.
