Understanding pharmaceutical film coating process using combined optical coherence tomography and terahertz in-line sensing
You will join an exciting EPSRC-funded interdisciplinary project that aims to achieve a better understanding of pharmaceutical tablet coating process using the data acquired with emerging imaging and spectroscopic techniques.
You will be engaged in developing process models with a view of process optimisation for validation against mechanistic model predictions. In particular, you will take the role to perform systematic studies of a lab-scale tablet mixing process acquired using the terahertz in-line sensing in the Terahertz Applications Group at University of Cambridge. You will take a leading role to develop data analytic tools and procedures (e.g. using machine learning and data mining techniques) to support process modelling and optimisation, and to take an active role in the day-to-day supervision of students involved in the project. This research will be performed in close collaboration with University of Cambridge, University of Liverpool, Bosch Packaging Technologies, BASF and Coloron.
You must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering or a closely related subject. A strong and proven experience in coding using Matlab or related is essential. To support modelling, knowledge of machine learning, data mining and big data is also essential. Experience in process analytical technologies such as terahertz, optical coherence tomography and/or pharmaceutical coating/manufacturing is desirable. In addition, the candidate should have proven ability to publish in national/international high-quality journals, be a good communicator being able to work as part of a team and in collaboration with industrial partners, with good inter-personal skills.
