Tenure Track position in Industrial Management, Next Generation Intrapreneurship and Organizational Innovation Capability

The University of Vaasa is implementing its research-focused strategy, centred around a 10 million Euro investment programme. We are building up our research capabilities by opening up to 20 new Tenure Track positions. Our future-oriented investments will create a highly dynamic and supportive research environment. These Tenure Track positions will offer successful applicants an excellent opportunity to build up a multifaceted academic career.

We are now inviting applications primarily for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure Track) in Next Generation Intrapreneurship and Organizational Innovation Capability. However, applicants for the position of Professor may also be considered. The level of appointment depends on the merits and career stage of the applicant.

Task description

In the world characterised by globalization, digitalization and ecosystems, businesses are under pressure to reinvent the ways they innovate. The need to develop organizational innovation capability and intrapreneurship has rapidly changed the entire innovation process and challenged existing theories and practices of innovation management. They are calling into question fundamental assumptions about innovation, agency for innovation, and the relationship between innovation processes and outcomes.

There is a critical need for research-based knowledge and novel theorizing on organizational innovation capability and intrapreneurship. Examples of such developments include: process acceleration, open and user innovations, co-creation and distributed innovation agency, innovation labs, agile and scrum based innovation.

We are looking for candidates who have a track record of research or demonstrated research interests in the area of ‘Next generation intrapreneurship and organizational innovation capability’. Successful candidates may come from a variety of disciplines relevant for this novel area of research. 

The Tenure Track position is located in the School of Technology and Innovations and it will be closely linked with the theme of Industrial Management. The tenure holder will carry out research with InnoLab, our multidisciplinary open research platform. It has focus on open and user innovation, entrepreneurship, and public sector innovation and renewal.

The Tenure Track position is research-orientated, but the appointed person will also be expected to acquire external funding, deliver high-quality teaching and theses supervision, actively participate in activities within the scientific community and university administration, as well looking to create societal impact through their work. Duties in teaching and supervision are connected to the University’s Bachelor’s and Master's degree programmes in Industrial Management. The scope of responsibilities will be determined according to the career stage of the successful candidate. The annual working time is 1624 hours, and tasks are agreed in more detail in the appointed person’s Annual Work Plan.

Your profile and requirements

All applicants should have a relevant doctorate degree, as well as excellent academic merits and a demonstrated potential for conducting outstanding research. We are particularly interested in applicants with multidisciplinary interests and strong records of, or potential for, excellence in teaching. Experience in obtaining research project funding as well as high-quality scientific publishing are both highlighted aspects for potential applicants. Applicants will also be evaluated on the basis of the relevancy and innovativeness of their preliminary research plan that will demonstrate how they would approach the phenomena related to the research platform from the point of view of their own research field.

Salary and benefits

We recognise and reward personnel in a number of ways, including financial rewards for publications of high classification. The salary for these Tenure Track positions is based on the Finnish University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff. The gross monthly salary will be about €3,600-4,700 for an Assistant/Associate Professor, depending on the job requirements and personal performance. An annual holiday bonus is paid to all employees in July. Each University of Vaasa employee automatically belongs to a pension scheme and the majority of the pension contributions are paid by the employer.

On your way to becoming a Professor – Tenure Track at the University of Vaasa

The University’s Tenure Track process offers the appointed person an opportunity to advance to become a Professor in their discipline. The selected candidate can advance to the next career stage provided that he/she succeeds in the regular evaluations of the Tenure Track scheme. On the basis of the candidate’s experience and competence, he/she may be employed for a fixed term as Assistant Professor (2-5 years) or Associate Professor (3-5 years). A person fulfilling all of the qualification requirements and demonstrating particular merits may be appointed to the position of Professor on a permanent basis.
