Newcastle University is looking to appoint a Professor of Architecture and Pedagogy (as a fractional appointment, at 0.6FTE). We seek a world leading scholar with research expertise in architecture and pedagogy who will commit to building Newcastle’s presence and reputation in this field and practice.

We are looking for a research leader and inspiring teacher with inter-, multi- and/or trans-disciplinary expertise and interests in, for example:

  • Architecture’s pedagogies;
  • Learning spaces;
  • Learning environments for children, for lifelong learning, and throughout the lifecourse;
  • Radical and innovative pedagogical theory and/or practice;
  • Intersections between pedagogy and participatory co-design practices.

Architecture in Newcastle understands knowledge to be a collective cultural endeavour which is best realised through a dynamic approach to research and education, not imagining the discipline as a set of truths but instead as an ongoing process of inquiry in which staff and students are both participants. We are looking for a colleague who can make an important contribution to this collaborative endeavour.

This post is available on a part-time 0.6 fte basis.

For an informal conversation regarding the role please contact Professor Adam Sharr - Head of School, Architecture, Planning & Landscape at – and/or Professor Graham Farmer – Director of Architecture at

Interview Date: To Be Confirmed
