Applications are invited for an experienced Laboratory Manager to run the MRC Dementia Platform UK (DPUK) Stem Cell Phenotypic Screening Facility undertaking target and drug discovery projects in patient stem cell-derived neuronal models of disease. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the interface between academic research and pharmaceutical target and drug discovery, providing laboratory management support to a research team working on the development of novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease. This Laboratory Manager post will provide facilities management of a major new cluster of high-end equipment for drug and target discovery; train and supervise facility staff; and provide laboratory management for our tissue culture suite dedicated to working with human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models of disease.
Main duties will include management of associated IT infrastructure for data acquisition, storage and sharing; liaising with technical representatives of equipment suppliers to ensure compliance with maintenance contracts; contribute to wider project planning, including ideas for new research projects; determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses, and identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise; select, follow, and adapt experimental protocols; gather, analyse, and present scientific data from a variety of sources; contribute to scientific reports and journal articles and the presentation of data/papers at conference, and maintain general laboratory management, such as monitoring and ordering reagents and maintaining a safe laboratory working environment.
Applicants must hold, or be near completion of, a BSc or MSc in a relevant subject area, or have equivalent experience, and have knowledge of cell biology.
The post is a collaborative project between the OPDC and the MRC Dementia Platform UK (DPUK) funded for up to 2 years and is available to start from 1 September 2019. The post will be based in the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration, Le Gros Clark Building, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QX.
