Applications are invited for a research studentship in the field of Design Engineering leading to the award of a PhD degree and starting in January 2020.
* Aim: Eco-innovations (or environmentally-friendly innovations) are essential to mitigate the environmental impact of businesses whilst driving economic growth. The Ph.D candidate will examine the case of innovative start-ups to better understand the factors and circumstances that affect the environmental orientation of technology entrepreneurs. The research project will be rooted in the broader framework of “entrepreneurial ecosystems” to investigate the best ecosystem design to promote opportunities for environmental start-ups to launch and grow.
* Funding: The post is supported by a bursary and fees (at the UK/EU student rate) provided by the EPSRC. To be eligible for funding, you must have no restrictions on how long you can stay in the UK and been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least 3 years.

* Research environment: You will work within a passionate and dynamic team of innovators and researchers, in the newly refurbished facilities of the Dyson School of Design Engineering (http://www.imperial.ac.uk/design-engineering/). The School was formed in 2014, building on the long-standing design and engineering expertise at Imperial as well as the world-renowned Innovation Design Engineering programme run jointly by Imperial and the Royal College of Art. You will also have extensive interactions with research collaborators from institutions in Europe and in Asia.
* Required skills: We are seeking candidates with a First Class (Distinction) Degree or equivalent at Masters' level in Design Engineering, Economics, Management or a related subject. Our minimum entrance requirement is a good Upper Second Degree at Masters' level. Strong quantitative research skills and familiarity with empirical data analysis is essential. A passion for innovation and entrepreneurship, demonstrated by extra-curricular activities or industrial experience, is desirable. Good team-working and communication skills are essential.
