The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education.
The University is featured with an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy, a collegiate system, general education courses, multidisciplinary programmes and a student-centered educational philosophy.
The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) has two important missions. First, HSS provides foundational education for all university students in multiple areas, including general education, English language competency, Chinese language competency, physical education and fitness, basic competency in instructional technology (IT) applications, etc. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students receive.
Beyond the foundational education that HSS provides to all students, HSS intends to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences. We welcome high caliber faculty from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier School of Humanities and Social Science in China.
Positions and Qualifications
The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites applications for a faculty position in the broad area of Chinese culture (specialization areas including, but not limited to China studies, Chinese history, Chinese literature, Chinese Religions, etc. ), at the rank of full professor or associate professor level with prospect for tenure, although junior candidates with very competitive academic records may be considered for the position of assistant professor. Candidates with exceptionally outstanding records may be considered for Chair Professorship with tenure. All candidates should have (i) a PhD degree (by the time of reporting duty) in relevant areas of Chinese culture; and (ii) evidence of high potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.
Candidates for the associate or full professor position are expected to have solid evidence of excellence in teaching/research/service, and a strong track record of sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in the expertise area(s), as evidenced by research publications in competitive international outlets in the relevant areas of Chinese culture. In addition, candidates need to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence.
Successful applicants are expected to be able to teach a range of courses in core areas of Chinese culture. Experience in supervising postgraduate students will be favorably considered.
Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.
The appointees are expected to commence work in the academic year of 2019-20.

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC. The appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.
