Applications are invited for a Terra Foundation for American Art Visiting Professor for the 2020/21 academic year at Oxford University. This post, which is generously funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art, will be based in the History of Art Department, part of the History Faculty and is offered in association with a Visiting Fellowship at Worcester College.

This post is a unique and exciting opportunity to build on long-term research networks, encourage international symposia and conferences, and inspire a new generation of American art academics and curators by further embedding the subject into Oxford’s graduate and undergraduate curricula. The successful candidate will be required to give tutorials, lectures, classes and supervision at both undergraduate and graduate level, to engage in examining and some administrative work, and to engage in advanced study and original research in the history of American art.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate and teaching experience in a relevant field, have a strong research record and/or research potential with a reputation as an international authority within the specialism and a level of international publication at a standard that will contribute to and enhance the national and international profile of the History of Art Department and History Faculty.

The post is fixed-term for 12 months (or until 31 August 2021 whichever is sooner). Ideally, candidates would start between 1 August and 1 September 2020 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The deadline for applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 30 September 2019. Interviews are expected to take place in Oxford during November 2019.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
