You will join a team examining variations in quality and safety in healthcare provision and developing indicators for use in the NHS and internationally.
The aim of the research is to identify and develop indicators of quality of delivery of healthcare using routinely collected administrative health data.
There is a great deal of scope for original research in this data-rich environment. You will focus on analyses of inpatient data and the development of useful outcome indicators using methods such as multi-level modelling and statistical process control charts. Examples of future work will include expanding prospective surveillance methods and further analysis of inequalities in health care.
Duties and responsibilities
For those eligible for the Research Associate post, some teaching duties for undergraduates and postgraduates will be required.
For a Research Assistant level, an MSc (or equivalent) in Epidemiology, Statistics, Health Services Research or a related numerate subject is essential. For a Research Associate level, a PhD (or equivalent) in Epidemiology, Statistics, Health Services Research or a related numerate subject is essential.

The post is full-time, fixed term until 31 May 2021.
The research team are based at premises near Blackfriars station, London. The unit was pivotal in triggering the investigation into emergency care at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477- £38,566 per annum.
