The College of Life and Environmental Sciences brings together the excellent teaching and research of Biosciences, Geography, Psychology and Sport and Health Sciences. Sport and Health Sciences was ranked 1st in both The Complete University Guide 2019 and The Times Good University Guide 2019, 13th in the Global University rankings for Sports Science and 3rd in Ref 2014 for research quality and intensity.

The University's collegiate system, including the College of Medicine and Health with whom we are co-located on the beautiful St Luke's campus, facilitates a truly interdisciplinary approach to academic innovation, research and learning. 

We are seeking to appoint two new Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Nutrition to support the development of a new BSc in Nutrition, and to further strengthen our activities in Sport and Health Sciences. The appointed people will be innovative academics, registered nutritionists or dieticians who are committed to delivering the highest quality research and education.

The above full-time post is available from 1st March 2020 in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences. 

The role

The post of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Nutrition will contribute to extending the research profile of Sport and Health Sciences at Exeter.

For appointments at Lecturer level, the successful applicant will be a registered nutritionist and hold a PhD in nutrition or a related area. Applicants will have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in an active field of nutrition research which is related or complementary to existing Exeter strengths.

Applicants with expertise in nutritional epidemiology, nutrition and health, nutrition and diabetes or sustainable nutrition would be particularly welcomed. 

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics; 

  • A strong record in attracting research funding, or demonstrable potential to attract such funding, teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing group members
  • An active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally with business and industry.
  • The attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development
  • The aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning and enthusiasm for delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. 

For appointment at Senior Lecturer level, in addition to the above applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong potential for research leadership with a track record in refereed publications, proven success in significant grant capture and relationships with external organisations and funders. Previous industrial experience is also welcomed.
