Founded in 1869, the Second Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine (SAHZU) was the place of origin of western medicine in Zhejiang Province. It is now a top ranking nonprofit public hospital in China accredited by Joint Commission International.
Located in the capital city of Zhejiang province, Hangzhou, SAHZU has 2 hospital campuses with a total bed capacity of 3200. In 2018, SAHZU served 5.13 million outpatients and emergency visits and performed about 140,000 surgeries. Its average length of stay was 6.76 days.
SAHZU has over 10 national key disciplines designated by central government, standing at a leading level in China in transcatheter cardiovascular intervention, cataract, colorectal cancer, degenerative joint diseases, neurogenetic diseases and acute trauma, etc.

Right now, an innovation center is currently under construction in the Riverside campus of SAHZU for the purpose of promoting the integration of clinical medicine and research and driving the development of discipline. Another new hospital campus at Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou covering a land of about 33 hectares is going to operate in near future. The goal of the new campus is to become a global university medical center and world class healthcare provider. It will serve as a cross discipline platform, an innovation institute for clinical technology, a training base for talents and an incubator for centers of excellence.
