The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to develop into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications.

Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. The University recruits first-class faculty members from around the world, and we welcome high caliber faculty of diverse background from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier School of Humanities and Social Science in China.   

Global Studies is a postgraduate program established in 2019, covering three streams including international relations, international political economy and global sustainability. HSS commits to further develop the Global Studies Program, offer undergraduate and Ph. D programs, and establish the Advanced Institute of Global and Contemporary China Studies in the foreseeable future, which aims at pursuing academic and intellectual excellence.  

Position and Expected Qualifications

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK-Shenzhen invites application for faculty position in international relations (international security, international political economy, and Global governance preferred), at the rank of full professor level with prospect for tenure, subject to the qualifications and successful performance evaluation. Candidates are expected to have a proven record in high-quality teaching and research in the expertise areas. Priorities will be given to candidate with management experience and skills in program planning, curriculum development and student supervision, and a proven record of research publications in competitive international outlets. 

Successful applicants are expected to commence work from no later than September 2020.  

Salary and Fringe Benefits 

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC. The appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.
