The Centre for Humanities and Social Science of Health, Technology and Medicine (CHSSoHMT) seeks to employ a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) for a period of one year at .8 FTE. The applicant will support the development of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Liverpool. CHSSoHMT, a cross-faculty Centre, brings together developments across the arts, critical scholarship and engagement with various publics to enhance understandings of medical, (bio) scientific and technical practice. It provides a home for medical humanities at the University of Liverpool and incorporates innovations in broader science-art collaborations, including technological development and the environmental humanities. It is comprised of five thematic areas: critical medical humanities; arts, therapy and mental health; designing futures; arts-lab and environmental humanities:

You should have a PhD in Social Sciences/Humanities related to Medical/Health Humanities and Social Sciences The post will focus on the development of the applicant's own research plans as they relate to the Centre's priorities as well as supporting the work of the Centre across faculties. The successful candidate will be supervised and mentored by the Centre's Director and one of the Thematic Leads.

The applicant is expected to:

  • prepare publications from their own research
  • Submit funding applications to a related research council or charity in relation to one or more of the Centre's thematic areas as an independent researcher and/or in collaboration with others.
  • identify funding streams and support bids relevant to the Centre's on-going activities
  • to work with colleagues across all three Faculties and to support and participate in centre activities by, undertaking administrative duties, coordinating and publicising events; producing a monthly blog/newsletter; facilitating the Early Career Research Network
  • Participate in Medical Humanities and Social Sciences Networks at regional/national/international level
