The Birmingham International Academy (BIA), a division of Academic Services, offers high quality pathway provision and English language support to the University’s international students.  These include Foundation and Pre-Masters programmes, Presessional English and a range of open access academic English courses for current students.

The BIA Administrator will provide administrative support for the Presessional and Academic English programmes, to include processing of presessional fees and commission claims, attendance monitoring and other Tier 4 compliance activity, analysing student progression, and managing departmental marketing and communications.

Main duties include:

  • Financial Responsibilities.
  • Monitor student fee payments, raise invoices and process fee refunds.
  • Manage commission payments.
  • Web site management.
  • External communications using Radius.
  • Respond to written and verbal presessional queries.
  • Update iVLE information on Canvas courses, and manage attendance registers.
  • Represent the BIA at open days.
  • Analyse student progression data and report production.
  • Produce student feedback questionnaires and analyse responses.
  • Organise student social activities.
  • General administrative support.

Person Specification/Essential requirements:

  • Excellent IT skills, including experience of maintaining databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good team working skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A professional and personable manner.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • A logical, systematic approach to tasks.
  • Extremely high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and prioritise accordingly.
  • Ability to work proactively and without supervision.
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn new software packages


  • Educated to A-Level standard and a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade A* - C including Mathematics and English (or equivalent).
