We are looking for an experienced individual to lead the delivery of our multi award-winning BDes(Hons) Graphic Design programme into the next phase of its development. Founded 13 years ago, the programme has to date won nearly sixty student design awards, as well as four times in the last five years receiving a best in show award at D&AD New Blood graduate showcase in London.

This is one of the top Graphic Design programmes in the UK. We have strong links with industry, locally, nationally and internationally.

The role is at our Merchiston Campus in our School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI) that is located in the beautiful and historic heart of Morningside, Edinburgh. The role

As a Lecturer in Graphic Design, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of an exceptional student experience on the four year undergraduate programme
  • Lead on established, as well as new LTA practices, to enhance programme delivery
  • Devise, design and contribute to Masters delivery
  • Teach across all programme years
  • Devise, design and deliver new module content across context, print and digital genres
  • Expand on our already extensive industry contacts and collaborations, locally, nationally and internationally
  • Devise opportunities for collaborative & cross disciplinary working, both internally and externally
  • Contribute to cross university committees and working groups
  • Support the Subject Group leader, school and university in delivering their vision and strategic goals
  • Ensure the quality of the graphic design programme at each stage of its delivery
  • Contribute to research and professional development across the subject group, school and university
  • Seek opportunities to internationalise our work, both through TNE, and other strategic partnerships

You will be joining a team of academics with strong credentials in professional practice and research.

Who we are looking for

You will demonstrate expertise across graphic design genres including typographic design, art direction, digital production, and print craft, but particularly in digital graphic design and demonstrate high working knowledge and proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud software.

You will have a combination of extensive industry experience in these areas, and academic leadership, with evidence of having managed and led an exceptional student experience. We welcome applicants who can also support our research and knowledge exchange strategy. A PhD is desirable, but not essential. 

The post holder should be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or eligible for a fast-track application. The role will involve international travel.
