Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Chinese Language and Literature (Ref.AC2020/023/01) 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-end talent with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility. 

Up to now, more than 5,600 undergraduate and postgraduate students are studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Its long-term goal is to recruit 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students. At present, the University offers programmes in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. 

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) has two important missions for our university’s education. First, HSS provides university core courses for all university students in multiple areas, including general education, English, Chinese, physical education and fitness, and information technology. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students will receive. 

Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At present, HSS offers four high-quality Master’s programmes: Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting Studies, Master of Arts in Simultaneous Interpreting, Master of Arts in Global Studies, and Master of Science in Applied Psychology. At the undergraduate level, HSS offers Bachelor of Arts in Translation, Bachelor of Arts in English Studies and Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology. 

HSS is looking for applicants who have strong interest in joining the Language and Communication Division. The appointees are expected to commence work in no later than August 2020. 

Post Specification  

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • a Ph.D. in Chinese language and literature or a related field;  
  • proven record of teaching excellence at tertiary level; 
  • a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship;  
  • excellent communication skills in Putonghua and a good command of written and spoken English. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • teaching University Core Chinese courses to all undergraduates, and possibly also other University elective courses related to Chinese culture and literature;  
  • designing e-learning materials; 
  • assisting in curriculum development and administrative assignments.

Salary & Benefits 

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the PRC. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, PRC.
