1. About Us
The School of Materials of Sun Yat-sen University was founded in May 2017, with the aims at establishing a world-class School of Engineering. Taking the advantages of national “Double Tops” construction and the major development strategy of Guangdong Province, the School of Materials is built at Guangming New District, guided by the future blueprint designed for Shenzhen campus. Based on the tentative ideas of “Big Materials Science”, the School of Materials is expected to focus on National Strategic Challenges, supplemented by exploring Scientific Frontiers.
Following the direct call to the“South China Strategy” , “one Belt and one Road” Initiative and great need of Guangdong Province for science and technology, six preponderant disciplines have been formed after years of development and resources integration, including Strategic Electric and Optical Materials, Advanced Structural Materials for Extreme Conditions, Materials Service, Protection and Fatigue, New Concept Functional Materials, Advanced Materials Manufacture, Computational Materials Science, etc. These disciplines take the leading direction in material science, and would make great contributions to national development and the industry structure promotion in Pearl River Delta.
The School of Materials recently possesses an energetic and high-quality academic team comprised of 52 full-time faculties, including 9 professors, 27 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 14 full-time researchers. The school currently has 316 undergraduates and 77 graduate students.
Applicants with the following background are welcomed:
Strategic Electric and Optical Materials; Advanced Structural Materials for Extreme Conditions; Materials Service, Protection and Fatigue; New Concept Functional Materials; Advanced Materials Manufacture; Computational Materials Science, etc.
Have engaged in significantly innovative research work with strategic development prospects and key common technologies; and have achieved remarkable results that are significantly innovative and have significant impacts.
