The role

We are currently looking for a highly motivated Programmer- Digital Archive Developer to

deliver key technical solutions to support the development of the Open University Archive.

The main purpose of the role is to contribute to the technical development, support and maintenance of the University Archive web harvesting service and the University Digital Archive.

This is a great opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about driving service improvement, helping to develop and implement strategic systems that manage knowledge and information to ensure the University’s intellectual property is preserved and content remains accessible.

Skills and experience

The role will suit you if you:

  • Possess a higher education qualification or equivalent career experience.
  • Have demonstratable programming and software design experience including the ability to write robust and maintainable code, specifically for web application development. Specialist knowledge in developing archival and content management systems would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Have demonstratable knowledge of good web and user interface and experience design with specific experience in usability and accessibility.
  • Have demonstratable experience of using and designing search, indexing and retrieval services such as Solr/Lucene.
  • Have proven ability to think analytically and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Have proven ability to work with a range of stakeholders as part of a team and also using your own initiative.
