The Department of Brain Sciences is making a major investment in dementia research jointly with the UK Dementia Research Institute. The project “developing electrochemical biosensors to detect neurodegeneration biomarkers” led by Dr Bing Li will be based in the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) Care Research and Technology Centre at Imperial. The Centre is led by Professor David Sharp in response to the Government’s 2020 Challenge on Dementia to find new ways to diagnose, treat, prevent and care for people with dementias, a group of neurodegenerative disorders which includes Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease. The UK DRI intends to combine world-leading expertise across the spectrum of dementia research.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This post will link into on-going research within the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) Care Research and Technology Centre at Imperial. You will assist with developing non-invasive, cost effective electrochemical biosensors using nanomaterials for the detection of blood dementia biomarkers.
You should demonstrate enthusiasm and responsibility, excellent organisational skills and a willingness to work independently as well as part of a team. You will be adaptable and will be keen to learn new techniques and continue your professional development throughout the length of the contract. Proven skills or experience equivalent to those derived from holding a degree would be advantageous.
This post is offered on a full time, fixed term basis available for 1 year.
