The Centre for Propulsion Engineering, within SATM at Cranfield, has a strong track record in power plant modelling and propulsion system performance simulation and experimental research. Research activities in the past 50 years, on gas turbine applications in power and propulsion, cover virtually every aspect of the field including propulsion system integration and experimental propulsion aerodynamics. Extensive participation in various EU and UK funded projects has strengthened and established the Centre as a key contributor to path breaking research while acquiring a peripheral view of the emergence of new technologies in the field. The successful candidate will join the Gas Turbine Technology Group within the Centre for Propulsion Engineering. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of aircraft-engine integration and contribute to sustainable and zero emissions Aviation. We are looking for enthusiastic highly motivated researchers to join our experimental propulsion aerodynamics group. You will have the opportunity to work closely with world leading researchers and industrial engineers on the design and execution of experimental campaigns on novel aircraft configurations using advanced, optical measurement techniques.

You will hold a PhD (or close to completion) in Aerospace, Propulsion, Systems, Mechanical/Process Engineering, Applied Aerodynamics or related subject, with a proven track record of publishing in high quality journals and experience of industrially sponsored management research. With excellent communication skills, you will have expertise in the design and execution of aerodynamic experiments but also in the design and development of experimental rigs for aerodynamic research. Good 3D CAD modelling and programming skills are essential.
