We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work on discovery and characterisation of inhibitors in Dr. Jon Elkins’ group at the Centre for Medicines Discovery (CMD). You will be involved in a large European Union funded project involving multiple universities and pharmaceutical companies.

You will be joining a group of experienced chemists and biochemists who together aim to create a chemogenomics compound library covering one-third of the druggable genome as well as novel chemical probes for targets of biological interest. You will be responsible for identifying and discovering inhibitors, analysing inhibitor properties such as potency and selectivity and managing collaborations to further characterise the inhibitors. You will help to guide the project and you will have the opportunity to learn new skills, be involved in a large collaboration, publish high quality papers and be involved in cutting edge science focused on curing human disease.

You will have a PhD in a relevant area of protein science and chemistry, either awarded, submitted for final thesis or close to submission. You will have proven experience in ligand characterisation and also have experience in protein production and assay development. You will have excellent presentation and written communication skills, and have a proven record in preparation of high quality research publications. You will be highly self-motivated, well-organised and flexible, with strong planning and problem solving skills, able to work independently and as part of a team, and to collaborate with colleagues and external collaborators.
